Slowpoke the roadie
« on: July 13, 2009, 09:38:23 PM »
Let me start by saying, I have SO much to learn......but OMG!!!! I love the road, why did I wait so long to get a road bike?
the fact is that I do have so much to learn, from hand placement to rules of the road to dealing with traffic, I took a wrong turn onto a heavy trafficked  road and I totally panicked when I realized I needed to move over several lanes to make a left.....
I also notice that gloves would be good, shoes need to be more stiff then what I have(mtb shoes) and eye protection is a most, to protect from wind and bugs... other then that it was a blast..... can't wait to do it again..
riding my bike.....

Oh no...you have surrendered to the dark side...just kidding, all biking is good!!   It doesn't beat you up as much as the trails.   May you often have the wind at your back.  Safe riding.

It was very awesome for like the first few months, but you'll love MTB again.

My favorite though is riding with a nice group with a nice pace.

When do you plan to hit up the ride with Carlos???  If it is this wednesday I might skip the club mud urban and tag along.

And you can ride shortly after the rain. I'd like to get one but for now, I convert my older bike to road friendly.

after yesterdays ride I know I'm not ready to go make a fool of my self in a group ride, I need to get more acquainted with the bike and build more endurance...I should be ready in a couple of weeks..

what bike did you get?  new/used?
how far did you ride and pace?

the only reason i ask is because i'm kind of in the same boat as you, minus a road bike.

i've taken my MTB on 25+ mile rides to the everglades and back and try to hold a pace of around 15-16mph.

i ride with my boss who is on a super old schwinn 10 speed roadie and i know i have to be getting a better workout than him.

if i find a killer deal i'll snatch up a decent used road bike for nights when i just feel like riding around my house.

have fun and watch out for the horrible drivers around here!

I got a great deal on a 2006 Felt F90 in excellent conditions from Goose, I rode for an 1h and 10minutes and did just under 20 miles, I tried to keep a pace of 20 mph but the wind kept me under 18 for the most part, at one point I was going 24 mph but that didn't last very long...

Byron, I know you're a Dade county resident, so drop me an e-mail and I'll share my secret road riding gems down south.  I stick to roads with bike lanes or really little traffic as the south FLorida drivers terrify me.
