I can understand and agree with a large group occupying a regular lane as long as they keep to that lane and follow the rules of the road, especially on multi-lane roadways.
But, I have a question that John or maybe someone else can answer ......
If there is a designated bike lane (such as on Hiatus between Sunrise and SR 84), is a rider or 2 riders required to stay in the bike lane?
I know Carlos rides this road and he's always in the bike lane when I see him. But, on my way to Markham I will usually see the same two riders on Sunday mornings heading south. Well, yesturday one of them kept sweeping out of the bike lane and into my lane forcing me and other vehicles to change lanes to avoid him. As I said I understand if there were 15 to 20 or more in a pack it be in the lane but this was 2 guys and only 1 was swerving into traffic for no reason that I could think of. I try to be aware of cyclists on the road knowing this is a heavily riden area by the groups and giving them plenty of room when passing, but this guy was pi$$ing me off. And others as well I can only imagine.

Would this be considered a traffic violation on his part since there was an unobstructed bike lane?

Why would you give up your individual rights for more Gov't control?

Thanks John. So since he had an unimpeded lane and still chose to ride into traffic slower than the cars coming up behind him, he was in the wrong and it would have been perfectly fine to just run right over him and keep going. JUST KIDDING!!!!!

I noticed that web page is based out of Waldo, FL. If any city knows traffic laws it's Waldo. They will ticket you for 1 mph over the speed limit.

Thanks SoFlo!!!
Myself and many others have stopped riding with these knuckleheads as I/We do not want to be there when someone gets killed.
I can guarantee that anytime the wind is heading in any kind of westerly direction they will shoot out into both lanes.
You can contact The Weston Flyers and Big Wheel Hollywood as their rides are known for having the knuckle heads on the rides.
Team Memorial and South Broward wheelers do a good job of policing their rides.

I take back what I said about The Memorial ride. I rode with them today. The Saturday ride that meets at the hosptal has been taken over by red light running testosterone heads.............
Fun ride though!! 58 miles at a 23MPH avg. Got home real early.

Weston Flyers think they own the road! I ride with Memorial and they have passed our group on US27 very dangerously many times. I am not surprised that there are so many anti cyclist motorists in Weston since they deal with this daily. US27 is not a place to race, especially on Sunday mornings when the motorcyclists are out ther doing 175+!

Hey, Carlos, I found out later that the Memorial ride leader wasn't there Saturday; hence, the hostile takeover by the few, the proud, the roadie knuckleheads.

Challenging and fun ride, nonetheless. Good to see you out there. Don't be a stranger.

According to some, we should respect people who ride like aholes just because they are fellow cyclists as well. Its ok to be an ahole, along as you ride a bike too. Well it seems anyway.

Sorry but they generally only stretch all the way across US 27 on really windy days when an echelon is the way to travel.

Cars have killed, maimed, impeded, terrified and p*ssed off cyclists for years; I think its good sport to screw with them occassionally and we can only do it when there is a large pack of us ....  :headbang:
