New to mountain biking!!:)
« on: February 17, 2011, 11:21:04 AM »
hi everyone! So I live in Miami and I'm new to mountain biking overall!! I wanted to learn about it some more because I'm really interested in outdoor activities! I go to the gym everyday but it gets boring and I am not able to enjoy the outdoors! :( so if anyone can give me some info as far as gear, trails, and just overall how do I start off? Thanks everyone! :)) :headbang:

if you're in miami i'd check out oleta or amelia.  both are decent starter trails.  or virgina key which opens sunday.

MTBR has a great beginners section.

You picked the perfect week to get into MTB in Miami!

If you want to meet most of the trail riders & builders in Dade County you should attend the Virginia Key Grand Opening on Sunday. Get there early, bring your ID and a credit card so you can demo a few 2011 MTB's & road bikes from Giant.

Make sure to seek out the volunteers who helped build the trails. We'll be wearing the yellow trailbuilder T-Shirts and we can gladly show you around and introduce you to the rest of the crew.  After that, meet up with us for a few group rides.

See you there.

Yeah Hopefully I can find someone to cover my shift tomorrow for work! But I'm just overall excited to experience something new! What attire is most appropriate? I mean I know I can go look online, but I feel it is always best to ask experienced bikers.

What attire is most appropriate?

No white attire between Labor day and Memorial day, otherwise it's all fair game  ;)
Just kidding, but shorts, shirt and shoes are usually recommended.
Just more kidding, shorts for sure, shirts/shoes optional.
Awww heck, wear whatever you want...all attire is acceptable for off-road riding.

Welcome!!!!!

Got a bike for you if you're interested.
Check out the ad I put up on Craigs List.
If you're between 5-7 and 5-10 this bike should fit you.
