Just wanted to say thanks to the people who created a great place like this for a Newbie who loves to Bike get introduced to Mountain Biking and connect with some great folks! I love biking and being outdoors, but I am totally new to riding Trails. Been to Markham Park and Oleta and LOVED IT!!! I am very much into fitness and would love to incorporate this as my main Cardio exercise, I am 6' 2", 230Lbs so I would like to find a good bike that will fit my size/height but I am clueless beyond the generic bikes you can find at you local walmart...lol
A few questions:
1. Where can I find info on a good Beginner/Intermediate bike?
2. What should I expect to pay for a good Beginner/Intermediate Bike?
Anyhow, Happy new Year to everyone and thanks for any info. you can help me with!!!

MTBR is a great site to read different sections on different bikes.
This past March I was in the same boat as you. I spent a couple grand on my "starter" bike ( *shameless plug - which is in the FS section right now) which might have been a little overkill, but I'm kind of known for taking a bull by it's horns when it comes to buying toys. Why did I spend so much? Well, in the world of bikes you'll soon realize that you definitely get what you pay for.
It's really difficult to say what you "need" because a lot of the advanced riders out there all started on $50 walmart bikes. I guess it's really what you "want" and/or are willing to spend. Full suspension/lightweight/better brakes, derailers, gears, cranks are all going to make your life that much easier and give you peace of mind knowing that you can consistently go trail riding with out parts constantly failing.

Thanks, I will definitely check that out.
